Wilson Ku turns 60 with a gift that gives back to Richmond Health Care

In celebration of his 60th birthday, Wilson Ku gathered friends and family for an evening centred on generosity and community care. In lieu of bringing gifts, Wilson and his family encouraged guests to donate to Richmond Hospital Foundation, inspiring over $26,000 in donations toward surgical equipment that will benefit patients right here in Richmond.
The donation will help purchase an Abdominal Arterial Set, a specialized instrument used to access and treat blood vessels in the abdomen during complex surgical procedures. This equipment enhances surgical precision, reduces risk, and supports faster recovery for patients undergoing vascular or abdominal surgeries.
Wilson immigrated to Canada more than three decades ago and has long called Richmond home.
“After talking with my wife, Rebecca Chan, we decided to make my birthday more meaningful. More than a celebration, I wanted it to be about gratitude,” shares Wilson Ku. “Richmond has been my home for many years, and I’m deeply grateful for the friendships and opportunities I’ve built here. Supporting health care in Richmond felt like a meaningful way to give back to the community that has given so much to me and our friends and family. My family and I are thrilled to have surpassed our fundraising goal, which will allow us to contribute even more than we had hoped. We’re so moved by the generosity of our friends, and we sincerely hope this inspires others to support health care needs in our community.”
